Eye of the Storm

About Eye of the Storm

Eye of the Storm is a hurricane tracker from Genius Games, for iPhone and the web. It shows the storms active right now on a map, with their forecast tracks, and lets you replay every recorded tropical cyclone.

These history pages are built from the two public best-track archives: NOAA NCEI's International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) for every basin, and the National Hurricane Center's HURDAT2 for the Atlantic and the East and Central Pacific. The summaries, rankings, distances and energy figures are our own, computed from those tracks.

Wind speeds are 1-minute sustained winds where a US agency analysed the storm, converted from knots and rounded to the nearest 5 mph as the National Hurricane Center does. Elsewhere they are the regional centre's own figure, which is often a 10-minute average and reads lower.

Not an official warning service. For watches, warnings and evacuation orders, follow your national weather service and local emergency officials.
